On the
land around the garden there are horses, which are
from time to time joined by nandues, armadillos,
tagus and skunks. For bird lovers this is a
paradise. In Uruguay 450 species have been spotted,
and around the garden more than 50 species have been
seen. Eight varieties of ground orchids have been
found on the land and in the garden, and after a
summer shower the tiny bulbs create a carpet of
flowers. A very old stone wall separates the land
from neighbouring fields and a gallery of 200-year
old indigenous trees grows along this wall. There is
no shortage of walks in the neighbourhood, for
example to the fast flowing stream Mataojos (500
mtrs) and the village of Pueblo Eden 4 kms away.
There are possibilities for horseback riding and
mountain biking. Pan de Azucar and San Carlos are
typical Uruguayan cities with the Plaza and the
Cathedral. Minas is a beautiful city built on 7
hills with the “Salto del Penitente” waterfalls
and Arequito grottos (with bats) nearby. One of the
most fashionable bathing resorts is Punta del Este
at 40 kms with beautiful beaches, restaurants,
shopping malls, museums and nightlife. More
information can be obtained at the B&B. |
